If there’s one area of Colombo where I voluntarily walk around under merciless Sri Lankan sun it’s Colombo Fort and Pettah Market. I used to come here every week in search of the best ingredients for my cakes and jams, back when I had a home bakery in Colombo. And while that was over a decade ago and the bakery is no more, I still love this area: from colonial architecture to the hustle and bustle of Pettah to the tastiest crab curry served on a banana leaf.
The guide is structured in a way to help you explore this neighborhood on your own: move from one spot to the next in the most efficient manner while covering all the major attractions, as well as many lesser-known spots. It’s full of my comments on the history of the places you’ll see, the best way to get there, and how to take the most advantage of each. This self-guided tour will take you about 4-5 hours. I made a Google Maps route for your convenience, too.
